This was Caledonian Thistle's first official game but they were well beaten by a competent St Mirren side.

In the third minute it was the home side's Alan Hercher who came close but in 22 minutes St Mirren opened the scoring. McIntyre & Lavety combined to provide Bone who thumped it into the net from 20 yards.

St Mirren scored a second in 33 minutes when David Elliott shot home from 12 yards. Just before half-time the home side's Wilson Robertson fired a 20 yard shot past the post.

In the 50th minute substitute 'keeper Jim Calder saved twice from Saints Alex Bone but the ball fell to Barry Lavety who netted from close range to make it 3-0.

Caley Thistle could not find the net but Hercher again came close and Wilson Robertson was particularly unlucky when in 85 minutes his header was cleared from under the cross bar by Steven Watson.

Alex Bone should have made it 4-0 in 75 minutes but he shot past with the goal at his mercy.

None.
