Caley Thistle needed to win this game to stay above Arbroath in the league but instead the home side recorded their first league win over the visitors this season.
The first half was quite even and Caley Thistle were lucky when full-back Mark McAllister appeared to handle in the area and the referee did not see the incident.
Early in the second half Lee Gardner picked up a shot from Pew and scored to give Arbroath the lead.
On the hour mark Norman MacMillan handled in the area and this time the referee gave a penalty - Gardner scored to make it 2-0.
