First Team Debuts

Milestones
Darran Thomson scored his first goal for the Club.

In the end a comfortable win but nothing was certain until Russell Duncan’s contender for “Goal of the Month” seven minutes from time. The tight pitch at Glebe Park makes life difficult and Brechin are always a good team at home. In seven minutes home defenders cleared shots off the line from Paul Ritchie and Ross Tokely - celebrations had started for Tokely’s effort when the referee decided it had not crossed the line. The opener did come three minutes later when David Bingham flicked on a Ross Tokely lob to Darran Thomson - he netted his first goal for the club with a low ball from 18 yards. Brechin equalised in 14 minutes when Daryll Duffy headed home Ally Mitchell’s curling free kick. Ritchie hit the side netting a minute later, David Hay saved well from Bingham then Stuart McCaffrey blocked a dangerous Steve Hampshire shot in 28 minutes. Bingham set up the second goal in 41 minutes when he twisted in the box and his shot was deflected to Ritchie at the back post. The striker tapped in amidst cries of offside. Two minutes after the restart Liam Keogh made good distance then set up Bingham who clinically scored his eleventh goal of the season from 25 yards. Keogh limped off in the 55th minute and David MacRae came on. The teenager nearly scored with his first kick of the ball but the low 20 yard shot went just wide. Brechin kept fighting and were rewarded in 62 minutes when Duffy scored a second. Charlie King’s through ball reached Duffy suspiciously offside but he confidently stroked it past Mark Brown for 3-2. Bingham was through in 75 minutes but after eluding the ‘keeper his angled ball was cleared. Ally Mitchell was unlucky not to make it 3-3 in 77 minutes when his 25 yard free kick came off the inside of the post then was cleared by McCaffrey. The victory was secured by a piece of magic in 83 minutes. Duncan won the ball down the left, eluded King on the edge of the box then sent a superb curling shot into the top right corner. Darren Mackie nearly broke his duck two minutes over time with a tremendous volley that just cleared the bar. At half time news came through that Falkirk were 2-0 up against Clyde and top spot looked on the cards – Clyde scored four times in the second half and held their one point lead. Queen of the South lost to a resurgent St Mirren and now sit seven points behind in third place.
