Celtic easily won this challenge match but only after Caley Thistle had given them a fright.

In two minutes Alan Smart fired home after excellent work by Norman MacMillan.

The lead was short lived as after 10 minutes Albanian Rudi Vata scored direct from a 20 yard free kick.

After 28 minutes Celtic took the lead with a bizarre goal - Barry Smith headed goalwards after a McLaughlin corner but in clearing John Scott headed the ball off 'keeper Calder and into the net.

Christie came close for the home side after a four man move but Stewart Kerr saved well.

Just before half time Falconer increased Celtic's lead after an O'Neil pass.

In the second half Caley Thistle tried to come back but Falconer sealed it with a goal in 85 minutes.
