A fine win for Caley Thistle against a strong St Johnstone side. In 2 minutes Barry Wilson took a Charlie Christie pass and sent it over the bar from 20 yards. In 16 minutes Mike Teasdale sent a back post header across goal but it was too high for David Xausa. The home side were rewarded for their efforts in 26 minutes when a David Hind cross from the right was netted by David Craig with a glancing header. St Johnstone created little in the first half but Patrick Connolly did come close from 20 yards then Jim Calder came out of his box to clear ahead of John McBride. In 58 minutes Barry Wilson was one-on-one with 'keeper Stephen Robertson and was brought down as he tried to round him. Mike Noble took the penalty and sent it high into the net to make it 2-0. At the other end Stephen Frail tried a 40 yard lob with Jim Calder off his line and came close to scoring.
With time nearly up Jim Calder tipped a header onto the bar and it was eventually cleared. Caley Thistle held out to win 2-0.
