Caley Thistle took the lead in only three minutes when Stephen Black turned a Steve Hislop cross past Keiron Renton.

Martin Harty and Alex Bone had chances to level before the visitors scored twice more.

In 38 minutes Stuart McCaffrey netted from a few yards out after a shot from Liam Fox was not cleared then, a minute later, Barry Wilson scored from a Fox cross.

Elgin came back into it after the break but could not score and Lewis MacKinnon headed home in 72 minutes to make it 4-0.

The scoring was completed five minutes later when Wilson latched onto a ball from David MacRae and headed in for 5-0.
