Although born in Inverness, Tom was raised in the USA and began his playing career with Iowa City Alliance and Region II ODP. He then moved back to the UK and signed for Birmingham City. He has been capped 14 times for Scotland Under-19’s and came to Inverness highly recommended to the manager. He signed a two-year contract with the club at the start of the 2005/06 season.

Season 2005/06 : Tom featured mostly on the bench during the season (20 times) but came on in a CIS Cup-tie v. Alloa Athletic in the CIS Cup 2nd Rd.
