David Carson spent his early career with Ashington. In 2014, Carson signed for Blackburn Rovers but he returned to non-league, playing with South Shields, Whitby Town and Morpeth Town from whence he came to ICT from on a free transfer on 15 May 2019. Carson signed for Scottish Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle. John Robertson tipped him for success. He has made 37 appearances for Inverness but he has yet to score although he likes a yellow card gaining 8 bookings prior the the 20/21 season. His last season in Evo-Stik East League saw the 23-year-old named league player of the season, as well as making the league team of the year, as Morpeth Town secured a league and Cup double. David missed the start of season 20/21 through injury. He scored his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Dunfermline in his 47th appearance following MotM performances in his previous three games at right back.
David has extended his stay by adding three years to his contract announced on 15th April 2021 which keeps him at Inverness until end of season 2024 and was the supporters player of the year choice.
The Scottish Cup Final v Celtic on June 3rd 2023 will be David's 140th appearance for Inverness with two goals to his credit so far.

David Carson has left Inverness on February 1st 2024 to sign for Livingston FC.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC can confirm that David Carson has joined Livingston FC following a permanent transfer deal being agreed between both clubs.

Carson, 28 years-old, joined us from Morpeth Town back in the summer of 2019. During his first season Carson played 38 matches across all competitions as Caley Thistle sat in second place before the season was ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

David missed the initial start to the 2020/21 season due to injury but returned and during the season began to feature more at right-back rather than midfield. David was named the club’s Fans’ Player of the Year for 2020/21 for his performances.

In 2021/22, David made over 40 appearances at Caley Thistle reached the final of the Premiership Play-offs. David was named the Fans’ Player of the Year for 2021/22 for his performances, for a second season in a row.

David reached his 100th game for the club at the start of the 2022/23 season in July against Queen’s Park. During 2022/23, David featured in 45 matches, and he scored an 88th minute winner against Greenock Morton in a 2-1 win for his second goal at the club.

David featured in our run to the Scottish Cup final, featuring in the wins against Livingston and Kilmarnock and in the final against Celtic.

Earlier this season, David played his 150th game for the club against Dundee United and in total he has played 163 matches for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and has scored twice.
