First Team Debuts
Milestones
A richly-deserved first SPL away win for Caley Thistle and their first victory under Craig Brewster.
Motherwell came into the game on a roll of victories, but any chance of continuing the run vanished with David Clarkson's dismissal in 81 minutes for two yellow cards in quick succession.
Richie Hart put the visitors ahead in 16 minutes with a carefully-placed angled shot from just inside the box. Roy McBain and Hart both came close before Graham Bayne made it 2-0 just before the break.
A Ross Tokely cross led to a mix-up between Motherwell keeper Gordon Marshall and Stephen Craigan. The ball squirmed clear and Bayne reacted quickly to touch it home.
Motherwell created little in the first half, apart from Richie Foran's header over the bar in 31 minutes.
Half Time: 0-2
Marshall saved from Hart and Scott Leitch hit over the bar before Motherwell pulled one back in 61 minutes. Mark Brown spilled Foran's 25 yard shot and Clarkson was there to take advantage.
Marshall denied Hart with a full-length save then Motherwell pushed for an equaliser. In 81 minutes Clarkson went to ground in the box alongside Brown. The home side claimed the keeper had brought him down and claimed a penalty. The referee disagreed and booked Clarkson for diving; continued protests led to a second yellow and an early shower.
Full Time: 1-2
A very valuable three points and a climb to a dizzy eighth.
