Tom was a product of the Rangers Academy which he joined in 2007. He made his debut for the Ibrox side in 2012, becoming their youngest player to make an appearance when he took to the field in a third division match against Stirling Albion at age 16 (and 150 days).

Ankle and Hamstring injuries sidelined him for the entire 2013/14 season and he went out on loan to Stenhousemuir after his recovery. He featured in the first team squad during 2015 but was again sent out on loan in 2016 and 2017 to Dumbarton and then St Mirren. After leaving Rangers in the January transfer window in 2017 he signed for Limerick in Ireland and played two games for them. At the end of the season he signed with Dumbarton on a one year deal making a total of 41 appearances.

He signed for Caley Thistle ahead of the 2018 season. After an injury interrupted two seasons at Inverness where Tom became a fans favourite, he signed for Ayr United. Tom scored some spectacular goals during this first period at Inverness making 68 appearances scoring 13 goals.

After a season at Ayr United (2020-2021), Tom has returned to the Caledonian Stadium on a two year contract and scored on his first pre-season encounter against Clach.

Tom was injured ahead of the play-off games after getting back into some form and missed the end of season 21/22 and may miss the start of 22/23. He is now squad number 7.

He actually missed the whole of season 22/23 and may be released by the club when his contract expires.
