First Team Debuts

Milestones
Stuart McCaffrey scored his first goal for the Club.

Caley Thistle earned a Scottish Cup quarter final place for a third time with this emphatic win but the scoreline does not reflect the efforts of Hamilton in the first half. They were unlucky to be 2-1 down at half-time especially after taking an early lead.
Gareth Armstrong passed low from the left to Martin Bonnar on the edge of the box – he neatly rounded the last defender and slid the ball past Mark Brown from 12 yards. The eighth minute equaliser came after Barry Robson persevered on the left despite the attentions of two defenders and his low cross reached Dennis Wyness on the six yard line. His first shot was blocked by a defender but the rebound gave him a second chance and this time he scored. Bobby Mann limped off in 22 minutes after a collision and was replaced by Grant Munro. Graham Potter pushed a Robson shot for a corner in 27 minutes then three minutes later Robson scored with a great solo effort. He twisted past four defenders before hitting low past Potter from 8 yards. In the second half Hamilton faded from the game and were over-powered. Paul Ritchie made it 3-1 just after the break when he took a low pass from the right and found the corner of the net from 10 yards out. Any last hopes Hamilton might have had evaporated two minutes later when Robson headed home his second after a Ross Tokely cross from the right wing. The fifth goal came in 68 minutes and was set up by a neat Charlie Christie flick into the path of Wyness down the left – he scored from a difficult angle but Potter did get a touch. Number six was Stuart McCaffrey’s first goal for the club as he headed in Roy McBain’s corner in the 72nd minute. Hamilton created little in the second half but they did have two shots blocked in the last five minutes. The reward for the victory came two days later when the quarter final draw was made – a home tie against Celtic.
