Milestones

A tough end to end match at a windy Gayfield. The home side had the benefit of the wind in the first half but Caley Thistle held on for 1-1 at half time. When the visitors had the advantage they could not make it count and Arbroath deserved their victory. Craig Hinchcliffe was a hero in the Arbroath goal and denied both Bobby Mann and Paul Ritchie in the first ten minutes. The opener came in 18 minutes when John Cusick intercepted 35 yards out, ran through the defence, drew Nicky Walker then scored comfortably. Ritchie bulleted a header past Hinchcliffe for an equaliser in 36 minutes after a Dennis Wyness cross from the right. 38 seconds into the second half Arbroath took the lead again substitute Kevin Heenan sent over a cross from the right to set up Graham Bayne who knocked it past Walker. Three minutes later it was 2-2. Mike Teasdale set Martin Bavidge clear on the right edge of the box and his cross was hit past Hinchcliffe by Ritchie from close range. The frantic pace continued and Arbroath grew in stature. They chased everything and scored the winner in 78 minutes. A John McGlashan run down the left drew the Caley Thistle defence and when he hit a low ball across the area Colin McKinnon shot past Walker. Arbroaths performance demonstrated why they have won four games in a row at Gayfield but Caley Thistle should still have done better.
