First Team Debuts

Milestones
Graeme Stewart scored his first goal for the Club.

Jim Calder was captain for the day on his farewell appearance for the Club after eight seasons and 195 appearances. Partick came north for a party to celebrate winning the championship they lost the match but the party went ahead. After weeks of indifferent football Caley Thistle finished with a flourish. The first goal came in 10 minutes when Barry Robson crossed from the left wing and Graeme Stewart headed past Kenny Arthur. Three minutes later Arthur made a mess of a passback in the 6 yard box and Dennis Wyness nipped in. He found Paul Ritchie who stroked the ball into the unattended goal from 18 yards. In 20 minutes Ritchie nearly scored another when Arthur missed a cross but the ball went past for a goal kick. Wyness made it 3-0 in bizarre circumstances in 21 minutes. Scott Paterson strode confidently out of defence but Wyness intercepted his pass then hit home from 16 yards. In 33 minutes Calder ran out of his area to deny Alex Burns then in 44 minutes he blocked a chip just ahead of Burns. Partick tried desperately to get a goal back in the second half but the nearest they came was when Martin Hardie netted in 64 minutes and offside was given. Five minutes earlier it looked like 4-0 was on the cards when Stewart rose to meet Charlie Christies corner from the left the header was good but it crashed off the post. Jim Calder left the home crowd with yet another memory in 68 minutes when he cleared his lines by a cheeky backheel to Stuart McCaffrey. Caley Thistle regained the upper hand in the closing 15 minutes just after Burns had shot wide for Partick. With the final whistle just seconds away Ritchie headed goalwards from close range but Arthur made an excellent point blank save. A fine finish to the seasons football and Caley Thistle now await resolution of the off-the-field difficulties.
