Milestones

It took special goals from Mike Teasdale and Paul Sheerin to defeat a determined Alloa side. Davide Xausa should have scored with a header in front of goal in 9 minutes but Mark Cairns saved well. On the half hour Wyness turned and shot low in the box but Cairns dived to save. The best moment of the half came two minutes later when Teasdale ran down the right from his own half, cut inside and scored with a blistering shot from 25 yards. A slight deflection helped it on its way but Cairns had no chance. A minute later Teasdale was the saviour at the other end when he deflected a Steven Thompson shot for a corner. In 38 minutes Alloa's Ross Hamilton was unmarked in the box but failed to connect with a low ball. Early in the second half Alloa had a great chance when Bobby Mann slipped leaving Chris Wood and Willie Irvine clear on the edge of the penalty area. The home side were rescued by David Bagan who raced back to block the ball. On the hour mark Alloa's Richie Huxford appeared to handle on the right but play was allowed to continue and he sent a dangerous ball into the Caley Thistle box. As Jim Calder dived in vain Grant Johnston turned it into the net for the equaliser. Three minutes later they nearly scored again from a Colin Nish header but it came off the post and Sheerin cleared off the line. Sheerin was the hero in 79 minutes when he scored the winner with a 30 yard shot into the top corner which completely deceived Cairns. Not a great game and only an average performance but two great goals and three valuable points. Caley Thistle moved up to 5th in the league with the same points as Ross County. An interesting position ahead of next weeks derby match in Dingwall.
