Milestones
A more convincing victory than the score suggests. The opener came in 3 minutes when Davide Xausa ran down the left and cut the ball back from the line. Denis Wyness was 10 yards out and he hit it low through a defenders legs into the net. Xausa and Paul Sheerin had shots saved before the second goal came in 28 minutes. David Bagan shot from 12 yards and keeper Andy Carlin was left helpless when the ball deflected past him off David Murie. Morton came back into it in 39 minutes when a David McGregor cross from the left was headed home at the back post by the unmarked McDonald. Five minutes into the second half Bagan had a chance when he was through on Carlin but the keeper did well to block the shot. Seconds later Xausa sent in a low cross from the left and Wyness stretched to knock it in for 3-1. Wyness completed his hat trick in 56 minutes when he headed in a Paul Sheerin cross from the right. Xausa was set up by Sheerin in 63 minutes but Carlin managed to kick the ball away. It was now all Caley Thistle except for another Morton consolation goal. A lob out of defence found Ross Mathieson down the middle - free and surprisingly onside. He ran on unchallenged, rounded Jim Calder and scored easily. With 2 minutes left Wyness had a great chance to score his fourth, he was set up by a Charlie Christie sprint down the left but he hit it low and past the post.
