Milestones

Ian Broadfoot reports from the match at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. Mark Brown made his 150th league appearance in this game and would no doubt have been quite happy to keep a clean sheet. Unfortunately however, none of the strikers could score at the other end and it ended goal-less.

No goals but plenty of action and some near misses. Caley Thistle retained the same starting line up as last week and started at pace.

In the second minute John Rankin sent a quick free kick to Barry Wilson but his long range effort drifted wide. Wilson came closer in seven minutes when a Roy McBain interception set Craig Dargo off down the right. He found Wilson who cut inside, drew the ‘keeper and crossed along the face of the goal. Malkowski was out of position but Steven Whittaker booted it off the line.

In 13 minutes Hibs were awarded a free kick in a central position 30 yards out but Moroccan Merouane Zemmama leathered it miles over the bar. Wilson’s seventh minute effort was repeated in 22 minutes after Richard Hastings broke down the middle towards the Hibs goal. The move ended when Wilson crossed from the right with Malkowski caught out once more but Rob Jones cleared.

Hibs were dealt a blow when Chris Killen limped off in 29 minutes to be replaced by Abdessalam Benjelloun – his shirt read ‘Benji’ which made the reporters’ task that bit easier.

On the half hour mark a Zemmama free kick was headed clear by Ross Tokely but Michael Stewart pounced on it and sent in a rising shot from 25 yards – Mark Brown did well to punch it to safety. A Hibs 30 yard free kick close to the break caused amusement when Hibs’ Rob Jones joined the ICT wall – to applause from the home support Ian Black moved in front of him to protect his colleagues despite Jones being a foot taller.

As the half moved into three minutes added time a good ICT move produced the best chance of the half. Roy McBain was felled near the corner flag on the left and Wilson’s free kick reached Grant Munro via Dennis Wyness – the defender let fly from just outside the Hibs box and Malkowski produced a remarkable instinctive save.

Half Time: 0-0

Malkowski saved from McBain five minutes into the second half but little was on target after that. An excellent Darren Dods tackle stopped Benji down the left in 68 minutes then the Hibs substitute hit over the bar after good work by Stewart.

Liam Keogh replaced the hard working Black in 71 minutes and within seconds he shot wide from 30 yards. Hibs began to create more chances and a succession of corners led to pressure on the home defence. The speed of substitute Ivan Sproule was a major threat down the left but the defence held firm.

As time ran out a Barry Wilson shot came off Steven Fletcher to forlorn penalty claims, a McBain shot was blocked, Grant Munro headed a Thomson corner clear at the other end and a dangerous Benji ball raced across the ICT goal but was cleared to safety.

Two minutes over time McBain tried an angled shot from the left but it bounced off Graham Bayne and the whistle blew for full time.

Full Time: 0-0

A draw was about right and Caley Thistle remain in tenth spot.
