First Team Debuts

Milestones

A goalless draw which brought to an end a remarkable record. The last 0-0 draw involving Caley Thistle was 160 games ago on 4th April 1998 at home against Forfar. It was perhaps more remarkable that the visitors made it to this match as heavy snow in the north had made road conditions treacherous. Only two First Division games survived the bad weather. St Mirren had the better of the first half with Nicky Walker bringing off some excellent saves. Saints Rickie Gillies shot across goal in two minutes after being set up by Jose Quitongo then Paul McKnight forced a tip over the bar from Walker. At the other end Ludo Roy saved a long range Dennis Wyness effort. McKnight tested Walker again with an overhead kick from the right but the keeper pushed it away and Charlie Christie completed the clearance. Saints were relieved when a Bobby Mann header was kicked off the line with Roy beaten. Ian Ross had a great chance after he started a run and played a one-two with Alex Burns. The return pass hit his heel but fell kindly and he was one-on-one with Walker - Ross hit it wide. The Inverness side had a good second half and especially the last 20 minutes. The visitors gained a free kick just outside the area, Bobby Mann stepped over the ball and Barry Robsons curling shot was punched away by Roy. Wyness latched on to a through ball from Robson, turned Gary Bowman in the box but Roy held the shot at the second attempt. The best chance to settle it came in 75 minutes when Wyness took a cross from the right with no defenders in sight. From 16 yards he drove hard but somehow Roy touched it away with his foot. In the last few minutes Roy McBain surged through and cut it back to Christie he shot just over from 20 yards. Caley Thistle went home happy with one point but knew they could have taken all three in the closing stages.
