First Team Debuts

Milestones

Little to excite the crowd but three valuable points. The home side dominated the game but lacked the killer touch.

In the early stages Barry Wilson headed over and a Paul Ritchie glancing header was held by Ludo Roy. The only goal of the game came in 21 minutes when a neat cut-back from Wilson on the right was netted by Ritchie from just outside the box with a low angled shot. In 26 minutes Wilson shot wide after a good 1-2 with Roy McBain and a few minutes later a Richie Hart free kick came off the Ayr wall. In a rare Ayr attack in 34 minutes Stewart Kean headed wide then a long range effort from Dougie Ramsay was held by Mark Brown. Just before half time Hart raced past Mark Smyth down the left and into the box but Roy saved his low shot. Ayr raced upfield and a Steve Ferguson shot on the turn was blocked by Stuart McCaffrey.

Half Time: 1-0

The second half was very flat but Ayr came more into the game. Stuart McGrady tried hard and he forced a good save from Brown in 50 minutes after beating three defenders down the left. Roy saved at Hart's feet in 56 minutes then two Ritchie efforts in the box were blocked in 62 minutes. In 69 minutes Wilson collected a loose ball on the left of the Ayr box but his cross was taken by Roy. A long shot from Wilson came off the post in 78 minutes then with four minutes left a Steve Hislop shot was deflected for a corner. The last chance came two minutes later when David Proctor earned a corner on the right. It reached Wilson at the back post but his volley was blocked by Roy.

Full Time 1-0

Caley Thistle climbed to fourth place with this narrow victory.
