Milestones
Ross Tokely played his 250th major competitive game for the Club. |
A narrow win against a determined Raith side despite home dominance for most of the game. Ross Tokely celebrated his 250th appearance with a goal and Paul Ritchie became the twentieth player to pass the century mark.
A Barry Wilson shot from long range went just wide in 13 minutes then a Ross Tokely chip was headed back to Ramiro Gonzalez by Paquito. A clash with Gonzalez in 18 minutes led to David Proctor leaving the field with a dislocated shoulder and Steve Hislop substituting. There were a few near misses before Tokely gave Caley Thistle the lead. Hislop won a corner on the right and Roy McBain's kick was headed home by Tokely at the back post. Raith's defending in depth prevented the lead being extended before half time despite a number of good moves.
Half Time: 1-0
Just after the break a through ball from Russell Duncan forced Gonzalez to come out of his area to kick clear then the keeper dived to collect a Wilson cross. Raith's Paquito sent a dangerous cross into the Caley Thistle box in 51 minutes forcing the concession of a corner. Bobby Mann headed Richard Brittain's kick clear, one of the few times that the defence was troubled. In 56 minutes a long kick from Gonzalez was bouncing harmlessly to Mark Brown when the keeper slipped but recovered in time to touch the ball for a corner. Brown had to look sharp on the hour mark when he took the ball off the feet of Antonio Calderon. Duncan hit past the post in 71 minutes before the long awaited second goal came.
Wilson took a corner on the left and Stuart McCaffrey was there to head in his third goal of the season. A neat Wilson pass in 75 minutes found David Bingham in space but he could only hook over from an awkward angle. Raith had chances through Craig Stanley and Karl Hanley before they pulled one back with seven minutes left. Goran Stanic sent over a cross from the left and John Sutton powered a header past Brown to set up an anxious finish. With two minutes left it was Caley Thistle who came closer to a goal when a Stuart Golabek drive from the left was pushed by Gonzalez into the side netting.
Full Time: 2-1
As the whistle went news came through of a last minute Clyde equaliser against Ross County - this sent Caley Thistle clear at the top of the league.
