Milestones
Arbroath came to Inverness to defend in depth but failed miserably. Only keeper Craig Hinchcliffe saved them from complete humiliation. Dennis Wyness made the first goal in six minutes when he rounded a defender in the box and sent in an angled shot which Hinchcliffe parried - it dropped for Ross Tokely and he stroked the ball into the empty net. Hinchcliffe saved a Richie Hart header in 16 minutes then Tokely volleyed over from a few yards. Barry Robson sent a diving header past in 21 minutes and after half an hour of play Mark Brown finally made his first save he safely caught a Kevin Heenan cross. The one-way traffic continued to half time then just two minutes after the break it was 2-0. Robson sent over a trademark cross from the left to Hart who side-footed the ball confidently past Hinchcliffe from six yards. In 51 minutes a Grant Munro pass found Dennis Wyness on the right side of the box he slipped past one defender and hit it low into the far corner with Hinchcliffe rooted to the spot. The Arbroath keeper performed acrobatics in 63 minutes to keep out a Paul Ritchie shot but was again beaten five minutes later. A high ball from Hart on the right eventually reached Tokely who scored with an overhead kick from close range with Hinchcliffe left flapping. As the domination continued Robson played up to the crowd with some keepie-uppie before Ritchie was rewarded for his hard work with a goal. A Wyness through ball split the defence and Ritchie hammered it first-time past Hinchcliffe from 15 yards. The keeper denied Ritchie a second goal right on the final whistle when he touched over the strikers goal-bound header. An excellent days work for the home side but the fine entertainment deserved a larger crowd.
