First Team Debuts

Milestones

It was a tense afternoon for the home side with relegation still possible. In the end a draw was enough to be safe as Falkirk could only draw at Ayr. The first shot came in 10 minutes from Charlie Christie but Bryn Halliwell dived to hold his 20 yard angled effort. Nicky Walker did the same at the other end in 21 minutes to deny David Hagen. Three minutes later a Christie pass sent Martin Bavidge on a run goalwards but his strong shot was tipped over by Halliwell. Bavidge tried the same in 33 minutes but it flashed past. In 37 minutes David Bagan sent in a chip from the edge of the box but Halliwell pushed it onto the bar then punched it clear. The good home spell continued and Paul Ritchie lifted the ball over the outrushing Halliwell from wide right the Clyde defence cleared the danger. Clyde improved in the second half and Pat Keogh tried a shot while grounded in the Caley Thistle box in 46 minutes there was little power in it and Walker saved easily. In 52 minutes Hagen tried a shot from 25 yards and Walker had to be alert to touch it over. Clyde hit the bar twice in a minute just on the hour mark Steve Convery lobbed Walker from the right as the keeper came out to challenge but it came off the top of the bar then John Frasers angled lob from wide left did the same. Halliwell saved a Roy McBain 18 yard shot in 65 minutes then two minutes later he beat out a powerful Bavidge strike. The opening goal came in 78 minutes after a Clyde breakaway. Fraser ran through the middle, took advantage of a Bobby Mann slip then played a one-two with Keogh before hitting past Walker from eight yards. Fraser could have scored again in 85 minutes when he had the goal in his sight but he lost control and Graeme Stewart stepped in. The welcome 89th minute equaliser came after Barry Robson ran down the right wing, cut infield then saw his shot blocked. Stewart reacted quickly to head into the path of Neil MacDonald who was just onside on the left side of the box MacDonald let fly first time and his volley crashed past Halliwell. Much relief all round.
