Milestones
A winning start to the league campaign against a Spanish-dominated Airdrie. The home fans were delighted to see Iain Stewart come back from long term injury and put up a spirited performance although he did not make the score sheet. The opening goal came in 8 minutes when Ross Tokely played a one-two with Kevin Byers then hit a left foot shot into the net from just inside the box. It looked like 1-1 6 minutes later when Antonio Calderon let fly from 20 yards but the ball whistled past the post. Keeper Javier Broto did well to deny Richard Hastings and Iain Stewart in 17 and 18 minutes. Martin Prest made a good run into the Caley Thistle box in 53 minutes but he was beaten by the combined efforts of Golabek and Hastings. The rest of the half was dominated by the home side but the second goal was a long time coming. In 56 minutes David Bagan sent in a good ball from the right and Davide Xausa dummied it but Charlie Christie's shot was well saved. The points were made safe in 71 minutes when Xausa scored from close range after good work by Wyness and Stewart down the left. Airdrie nearly clawed one back in the dying seconds when Stuart Taylor ran in on Les Fridge but the keeper blocked it with his legs.
