Milestones
After a bland first half hour this match came alive. The opening came in 32 minutes when a Martin Bavidge header was dropped by Matthew Bosewell and Roy McBain hit it high into the net. In 42 minutes Steven Whalen impeded Jim Calder as he raced out but play went on and the ball was scrambled away. On half time McBain sent a lob in front of Bavidge and he held off two defenders before hitting low past Bosewell. In 53 minutes it looked like three when Charlie Christie headed onto the bar in front of goal with Bosewell stranded. Paul Sheerin hit the post in 62 minutes and Bagan came close with a chip four minutes later. Christie set up Bavidge in 68 minutes but he fell over the ball 15 yards out. Bavidge made amends in 77 minutes when he took another pass from Christie and struck it low past Bosewell from 18 yards. With 9 minutes left a ball out of the Morton defence fell to Bagan who advanced and calmly rounded Bosewell for number four. Bavidge came close to a hat-trick two minutes from time after a Christie cross. His header was saved then a follow up shot bundled away. The day was only spoiled by the departure of Iain Stewart to Peterhead. Injury prevented a farewell appearance. His 82 goals in 144 games will be hard to beat.
