Milestones
Third place in the league was at stake in this game and in the event Falkirk edged it. A draw would have been enough for Caley Thistle but a young Falkirk side deserved their victory. It was not a good performance by Caley Thistle and they only came into the game in the second half. Falkirk took the lead in 13 minutes when a long kick-out by Myles Hogarth was headed on by Gareth Hutchison to Chic Pearson. The teenager knocked it past Jim Calder but it came back off the post - Pearson was following up and tapped in easily. The season finished sadly for Pearson when he suffered a suspected leg break three minutes from time. In 20 minutes Jim Calder produced a top-drawer save from Jamie McQuilken but he had no chance in 31 minutes when Ian Morris made it 2-0. His 30 yard free kick into the top corner could have come from the foot of David Beckham. Steve Paterson's half time talk clearly had some effect as Caley Thistle improved greatly in the second half. Dennis Wyness scored his 26th goal of the season in 71 minutes but not before Calder had to produce another good save to deny Pearson a second goal. The consolation came when David Bagan sent a cross from the left to the back post - Mike Teasdale headed back across goal and Wyness headed in from 6 yards. It was too little too late although Myles Hogarth was relieved to clutch a Wyness close-range header in the closing stages. Despite the disappointment of defeats in the last two games this proved to be a fine season for the team. They overcame a bad start to put together a record unbeaten run and finished a very creditable fourth. It took until November before Dennis Wyness scored his first competitive goal but he still ended the season as the First Divisions top scorer.
