First Team Debuts
Milestones
Barry Wilson played his 100th major competitive game for the Club. |
A return to winning ways for Caley Thistle. A good overall performance but missed chances kept the score down. On-loan Dumbarton striker Martin Glancy made an impressive debut and in 2 minutes he had a shot blocked. In 12 minutes a Paul Sheerin free kick from the edge of the area was pushed away by Craig Hinchcliffe. The one-way traffic continued and Christie, Glancy and McLean were all just off target. Hinchcliffe was again the hero in 27 minutes when he stopped a Wilson shot after a one-two with Glancy. The pressure paid off when Mike Teasdale was brought down just inside the box and Sheerin hammered home the penalty. Two minutes later the lead was extended by Barry Wilson on his hundredth appearance. He pounced on a loose ball out of the Arbroath area and chipped it over the keeper. Two minutes after the restart a Richard Hastings bullet from 25 yards was tipped past by Hinchcliffe. In 49 minutes a rare Arbroath attack came to nothing when a Colin McGlashan 22 yard free kick was saved by Les Fridge. At the other end a Sheerin angled shot whistled over in 53 minutes and two minutes later Hinchcliffe saved a Wilson free kick. Caley Thistle should have made it 3-0 in 72 minutes. Hinchcliffe dropped a corner but no-one took advantage and it was scrambled away. In 81 minutes Arbroath should have pulled one back when Ross Tokely fouled McGlashan in the box. Les Fridge made a great diving save from John Gallagher's spot kick. Five minutes from time a Duncan Shearer header went just past. In the last minute Hinchcliffe was again Arbroath's saviour when he tipped over a Barry Robson 12 yard volley.
