Milestones
The home side beat Clyde decisively on a snowy day. Brian Thomson scored the first in
1 minute 22 seconds a club record for a competitive goal. Trialist Paul Sheerin was set up on the left by Barry Wilson and his cross was driven in by Thomson from 10 yards. In 20 minutes a Vetle Andersen cross rebounded to Wilson 12 yards out and he finished clinically to make it 2-0. In 37 minutes it was nearly 3 when a clever Iain Stewart chip beat keeper Robert Balfour but it hit the bar. The half-time score was kept down by bad luck and the efforts of Balfour. Clyde came out fighting after the interval. An Ian Cameron header went just over in 50 minutes and Andrew Gibson came close in 52 and 53 minutes. In 64 and 65 minutes Balfour saved Thomson bullet shots and at the other end Calder turned a Gibson snap shot past in 66 minutes. Stewart made it 3-0 in 68 minutes when he turned and shot past Balfour from 15 yards. In 79 minutes Clyde scored a consolation goal when a Michael ONeill diving header flashed past Calder after a cross from Paul Brownlie. A minute later Sandy Robertson scored the fourth. He picked up the ball just inside the Clyde half, ran through the whole defence and slipped it past Balfour from 10 yards. Three minutes later Stewart made it 5-1 when he turned in a Barry Robson corner.
