First Team Debuts

Milestones
Brian Thomson reached 30 goals for the Club.

Caley Thistle bounced back from the disappointment at Brechin to convincingly beat Stenhousemuir. Overnight snow on top of frost put the game in doubt but the pitch was declared playable. Caley Thistle dominated the play throughout the game. The first chance came in 9 minutes when a Thomson chip reached Addicoat in space but he struck it past from 20 yards. At the other end Jim Calder did very well to push away a Bobby Law 16 yard drive in 14 minutes. 3 minutes later Warriors ‘keeper Neil Alexander had to do the same when he stopped a spectacular 25 yard Addicoat shot. In 33 minutes a Sandy Robertson 25 yard bullet hit off the head of full back Steve Farrell. The half was well into injury time when Caley Thistle took the lead through their best player Barry Robson. He took a corner on the right and it curled into the net through Alexander’s hands. In 55 minutes it was 2-0. Paul Cherry made a run down the right and flicked it to Thomson in the box. He controlled it well and stroked it home. Stenhousemuir should have pulled one back in 69 minutes when Gary McCutcheon, on loan from Kilmarnock, beat 3 defenders only to see his shot rebound off the bar. At the other end Wilson had a chance on 75 minutes. Farrell slipped in the mud under pressure from Paul Sheerin and Wilson stepped in to collect. With Shearer well placed in the box Wilson elected to go straight for goal but he hit it just past the post. 2 minutes later the game was sewn up by the on-form Paul Cherry. Shearer hit a low dangerous ball from the right into the box - Wilson touched it back to Cherry who hammered it into the roof of the net. The Warriors did not give up and 3 minutes from time a loose ball fell to McCutcheon in the box. He had time to control it but only managed to volley over the bar. Caley Thistle were delighted with their well deserved win.
