First Team Debuts

Milestones

A strong cross-wind and heavy rain conspired to prevent high quality football but there was plenty of effort from both sides. The first half was end-to-end but play was scrappy and neither ‘keeper was greatly troubled. The visitors had a chance in 27 minutes with a free kick on the right edge of the box – Barry Wilson found Russell Duncan but Jamie Langfield held his chip. Most other first half moves ended with offside decisions until Raith took the lead a minute past the 45 mark. A Ryan Blackadder free kick from close to the halfway line reached Steven Robb on the left and his cross was headed home by the unmarked John Sutton. Caley Thistle recovered from this blow in the second half but the goals were a long time coming. Grant Munro replaced the injured Bobby Mann after the break. A Wilson free kick in 47 minutes came off the wall then David Bingham had two shots in 50 minutes – one was blocked and Langfield held the second. Bingham sent an overhead kick past in 58 minutes then the equaliser came in 68 minutes after sustained pressure. A Roy McBain inswinging corner from the right was poorly cleared and Munro hit home. Raith fought back and a minute after the equaliser a Blackadder free kick was scrambled clear then Matthias Jack hit over the bar. In 80 minutes Langfield came out to head away from Steve Hislop then three minutes later it was 2-1. Bingham somehow stayed onside and his shot from close range was blocked by Langfield when he should have held it - Bingham kept his cool and scored from the rebound. Substitute player/manager Antonio Calderon spurred his team on and unsuccessfully claimed a penalty in 84 minutes when he went down. The victory was clinched a minute from time thanks to good work by Craig MacMillan on the right. He wrong footed a chasing defender and sent a low ball across goal – Paul Ritchie clinically hammered home from eight yards. Top place in Division One was secure.
