First Team Debuts

Milestones

A much delayed first league win accomplished in style. Arbroath created little apart from an early second half flurry. Dennis Wyness broke his league duck for the season with a hat-trick. In under a minute Paul Ritchie sent a header past the post then in 6 minutes Wyness opened the scoring. A long lob from Ross Tokely eluded two defenders and fell for Wyness he drew Craig Wight and finished clinically. In 14 minutes Barry Robson took a corner on the right and Bobby Mann headed his fourth goal of the season for 2-0. A Ritchie header flashed past in 25 minutes but the rest of the first half was a dull affair. Arbroaths Innes Ritchie was lucky to stay on the field when he handled just before half time. James Mercer shot over the home bar just after the interval then a James Gardner free kick came off the wall and Walker made his first save. On the hour mark a Roy McBain corner reached Wyness at the back post and he shot home his second off the post. Five minutes later a Stuart Golabek run set up Ritchie but his on-target header was saved by Wight. The fourth goal was only delayed by three minutes McBain took a touch from Ritchie and hit a low ball into the net from 12 yards. Arbroath gained a consolation with two minutes left when Paul Brownlie took a corner on the left and Stevie Mallans downwards header eluded all. Caley Thistle ran upfield and Wyness completed his hat-trick. Mike Teasdale set Ritchie off down the right and he ran into the box before cutting it across the six yard line Wyness took it first time and scored under pressure. A welcome three points and a lift off the bottom of the table.
