First Team Debuts

Milestones

A score which flattered Airdrie. Caley Thistle had the better of the first half and never gave up in the second home keeper Neil Bennett made a number of good saves. The first came in 12 minutes when Charlie Christie sent Dennis Wyness off down the left. He sent in a shot which Bennett pushed out but there was nobody there to take advantage. Bobby Mann headed away a dangerous Anthony Smith cross four minutes later then in 20 minutes a Wyness shot was blocked. Wyness sent shots low and wide in the 37th and 38th minutes and Airdrie came close in a goalmouth scramble in 42 minutes. With a minute of the first half left Barry Robson sent a shot from wide right to the top corner but Bennett just reached it. The second half started amidst heavy rain but it did not deter Airdrie. In 49 minutes they took the lead when a Mark Reilly corner from the right was only partially cleared and Stuart Taylor scored off the bar. In identical circumstances Taylor doubled the score in 64 minutes with a well struck volley. Caley Thistle continued to press forward and in 73 minutes Bobby Mann headed on a Robson corner but Bennett tipped it away. With a minute left the visitors were caught out as Paul Ronald intercepted just inside the Caley Thistle half he knocked it to Owen Coyle who set off on a long run which ended with an unstoppable shot from just inside the box. In injury time Wyness scored with a spectacular overhead kick but he was offside.
