First Team Debuts
Milestones
There was little to choose between the teams in the first half but the second half was much better with three goals. The first effort came in 22 minutes when Paul Sheerin tried to convert a Barry Robson cross but his angled shot was saved. On the half hour mark Martin Prest ran through on Jim Calder but over-ran it for a goal kick. In 53 minutes David Fernandez found space down the left and closed in on Calder then shot harmlessly past. Fernandez made amends five minutes later when he ran through and chipped over the advancing Calder to open the scoring. Paul Sheerin equalised three minutes later when he took a Martin Bavidge pass just outside the box and lofted it high past Broto. In 70 minutes Airdrie's Austin McCann punched Ross Tokely and a red card was inevitable. The 10 men fought hard and came close in 74 minutes when Prest put it through Calder's legs but past the post. The visitors created many chances and this paid off in 86 minutes. Roy McBain set Bavidge off down the right and he crossed to Davide Xausa on the left. Xausa hit it low into the net from 7 yards. Spanish tempers flared up in the last minute with Salva Capin booked for a foul on Xausa. Jesus Sanjuan protested, received a second yellow and was off.
