First Team Debuts
Milestones
Caley Thistle won all three league games earlier in the season against Spanish-dominated Airdrie but could only draw with Ian McCall's new team. The pack was shuffled once more with teenagers Graeme Stewart and Neil MacDonald making their first starts. It took great stops from both keepers in the first half to deny the strikers. Alan Ferguson saved from Dennis Wyness who shot low from just inside the box in 20 minutes then Jim Calder's legs blocked a Derek McWilliams 12 yard effort in 33 minutes. Just before half time Calder had to be sharp to stop a Paul Armstrong header. Airdrie took the lead in 57 minutes via an Owen Coyle penalty. A Coyle cross was pushed away by Calder but it fell to Robert Dunn who shot on the turn. It was goalbound before Barry Robson punched it away on the goal line. He had been booked minutes earlier and was not surprisingly sent off . Coyle hit the penalty low past Jim Calder. Airdrie failed to take advantage of a full half hour against 10 men and Caley Thistle equalised in 71 minutes. Dennis Wyness scored his 25th goal of the season with a 22 yard thunderbolt after a pass from Martin Bavidge. In the end a draw was about right.
