First Team Debuts

Milestones

Disappointment at Dumfries for the second time this season. The injury-hit visitors started strongly but it was Queens who took the lead in nine minutes. An Eric Paton cross from the right was met by Joe McAlpine but his shot was cleared off the line by Bobby Mann. Sean O’Connor was on hand to take advantage and score from close range. Russell Duncan set up Darran Thomson with a precision pass into the area but on loan Kilmarnock ‘keeper Craig Samson came out quickly to block. O’Connor was the architect of Queens’ second goal in 29 minutes with good ball control on the right then a neat touch into the path of Steve Bowey. Bowey connected 12 yards out and hit a low ball past Mark Brown. Before the break both Barry Wilson and Paul Ritchie headed over. Into the second half and Emilio Jaconelli could have made it 3-0 but he failed to connect with an Alex Burke cross despite a spectacular dive. Caley Thistle’s only goal came after a 22 yard Mann free kick in 77 minutes – it deflected off the wall and Paul Ritchie scored from six yards. Jaconelli tried again in 79 minutes but his shot was touched onto the post by Mark Brown. A long Grant Munro clearance found substitute Craig McMillan with a sight of goal – he played a good first touch but Samson came out to smother before he could shoot. Queens pressed for a third near the end and Jaconelli hit the post. Clyde beat Raith Rovers to regain top spot by a clear three points with a game in hand.
