Milestones

Two first half goals from Dennis Wyness gave Caley Thistle a well deserved first win of the season. Ritchie Hart made his first league start in midfield and Charlie Christie played up front. County produced little and troubled Mark Brown rarely. Ross Tokely created the opening goal in seven minutes when he intercepted a Sean Webb clearance and chested it to Wyness - he sent an angled chip past Tony Bullock for his first goal of the season. Tokely hit over the bar from 25 yards four minutes later then Bobby Mann headed over in 14 minutes. Apart from a blocked Hugh Robertson shot in the second minute County took until the 22nd minute to come close to the target – Graham Bayne headed over from a Wood cross. On the half hour mark Christie and Wyness combined to release Tokely on the right but Bullock palmed away his shot. A minute later Bullock again saved County when he touched away a Hart shot from just inside the box. In 33 minutes Barry Robson took a corner on the left and it came back to him out of defence. Robson crossed and Wyness sent a glancing header into the net from close range. Christie hit wide in 35 minutes then Brown easily caught a Bayne header. Neither side dominated the second half and there were few clear cut chances. A Bobby Mann free kick from 22 yards came off the wall in 54 minutes then Brown held well from a Bayne effort. In 70 minutes Stuart Golabek headed bravely to clear a Kenny Gilbert cross and Don Cowie hit over in 73 minutes. With five minutes left a Christie shot from 18 yards looked in but crept past then a second yellow card saw Kenny Gilbert sent off. Wyness tried to complete his hat trick right on the whistle but he shot low and wide from 20 yards. A welcome victory.
