Milestones
The rot of defeats was stopped by this emphatic win. The day was only spoiled by Richard Hastings being sent off late in the game after a tussle with Ross Hamilton. Hastings was returning after concussion on international duty in Trinidad and was playing his 199th game for Caley Thistle. The opening goal came in 14 minutes after a Davide Xausa run down the left and a pass to Martin Bavidge. Bavidge's shot was blocked but it fell for Barry Robson who fired low into the net. The visitors pressed hard to extend their lead but Mark Cairns held them at bay until the 39th minute. Mike Teasdale headed on a Robson corner and Ross Tokely did the same into a crowded goalmouth. Paul Sheerin was well placed to score from a few feet out. Ian Little had a chance to pull one back midway through the second half but shot wide with only Jim Calder to beat. In 74 minutes it was 3-0 when Xausa headed home a Stuart McCaffrey deep cross from the right. With 8 minutes left Bavidge took a pass from Denis Wyness and scored number four through the legs of Cairns. Hastings' dismissal came in 86 minutes and the resultant free kick fell to Gregg Watson who scored a consolation goal with a good strike. Relief all round in the Caley Thistle camp.
