Milestones

Despite the build up to this game was rather bland. Aberdeen killed it in 17 seconds with a Billy Dodds goal. Russell Anderson ran down the right, passed to Derek Young inside and he swept it to Dodds and his 6 yard shot gave Jim Calder no chance. Duncan Shearer then headed past after a Barry Wilson corner and Scott McLean hit a weak shot at Jim Leighton. In 10 minutes Ilian Kiriakov sent in a dangerous cross from the left and Paul Sheerin cleared it for a corner. In 24 minutes Shearer pounced on a kind bounce off the referee but his cut inside only found Inglis. Sheerin sent in a strong 20 yard shot in 27 minutes but it hit Inglis, a painful but timely stop. Chances appeared at both ends as the half drew to a close. In 42 minutes Mark McCulloch sent a low drive just past after a good move involving Charlie Christie and Sheerin. With a minute left a bad bounce from the halfway line set up Young but he hit it low past the post. Three minutes into the second half Christie set up Wilson down the right, he beat Kiriakov but his cut back was taken by Leighton. Wilson had another chance two minutes later when he took a free kick 25 yards out. He played a 1-2 with Sheerin then lobbed it over Leighton andthe bar. In 66 minutes it was 2-0. Kiriakov found Dodds who hit it low into the net through a ruck of players. He was denied in 69 minutes when Calder saved his close shot at the post. His hat-trick was only delayed by a minute. Calder punched out a Kiriakov low shot and Dodds followed up to score easily. In 81 minutes a Sheerin cross from the left was deflected for a corner with Leighton beaten. The keeper showed his class in 85 minutes when he saved a powerful McLean header. The game petered out after that with Aberdeen worthy winners.
