Milestones
In the end a convincing win but defensive lapses allowed East Fife back into the game twice. Caley Thistle took the lead in 8 minutes when a Scott McLean drive was parried and Duncan Shearer was on hand to take advantage. Two minutes later it was 1-1. A Gordon Brown shot was blocked by Jim Calder and, with the defence in disarray, Matt Dyer stroked the ball into the net. Two minutes later the Fifers could have taken the lead but Barrie Moffat's 14 yard shot went over the bar. The home side then mounted sustained pressure and it was rewarded in 26 minutes. Charlie Christie took a Paul Sheerin corner and thumped it home from 20 yards. McCulloch reached the ball but let it slip through his hands. This time the lead lasted five minutes. Bad marking allowed Barrie Moffat in and he sent a looping header past Calder to make it 2-2. The home side pushed forward in the second half and McCulloch saved well from Christie and Teasdale. In 63 minutes East Fife nearly stole a goal when a bad pass-back set up Richard Gibb but Calder saved well. Caley Thistle won the game with two goals in two minutes. Christie was brought down in the 74th minute and Sheerin made no mistake with the penalty. A minute later Scott McLean scored a great solo goal when he evaded two challenges and drove the ball into the net from 20 yards.
