Milestones
Caley Thistle's slump continued with this dismal goal-less draw. They started well in the wet and windy conditions and for the first half-hour they created real chances. As the weather improved the game went flat. Charlie Christie returned from long-term injury and he created a chance in 5 minutes. He weaved in the box then sent over a dangerous cross which Iain Stewart just failed to reach. In 10 minutes a Mike Teasdale shot was blocked and it fell to Barry Robson who shot past from a difficult angle. At the other end in 19 minutes Andy Cargill created an opening when he ran at the defence and passed back to Ally Gray but he could only lob over the bar. 2 minutes later Forfar had another chance when Martin McLaughlan made a run from the halfway line but he shot weakly past the post from 20 yards. 4 minutes later McLaughlan again ran clear of the defence and was only stopped by Jim Calder diving bravely at his feet. In 24 minutes Stewart beat the keeper to a loose ball, passed to Robson on the left and his cross was headed just over by Gregg Hood. On the stroke of half time McLean nearly broke the deadlock when he turned and shot from the edge of the Forfar box but it was deflected for a corner. There was little of interest in the second half as the fight went out of the home side and Forfar seemed content to play out a draw. In 54 minutes a Bobby Mann 40 yard free kick was deflected and Calder only took it at the second attempt. Steve Paterson sent on all three substitutes but they created little. There was a flurry around 75 minutes when Duncan Shearer set up Brian Thomson but his first time shot from 20 yards was wild. Shortly after that a Robson shot after a Barry Wilson cross crashed off the post. 3 minutes from time Thomson created a chance to take full points. A Shearer shot was blocked and it fell to Thomson who turned past one defender and shot hard from close range but somehow Dean Robertson got a hand to it and saved a point for Forfar.
