First Team Debuts
Milestones
Caley Thistle won this game more easily than 3-2 suggests. They pounded the Queens goal in the first 15 minutes and had chances through Wilson, Shearer and Teasdale. Queens amazingly took the lead in 20 minutes when a Sandy Nesovic corner caused confusion in the Caley Thistle area. Jim Calder fumbled the ball and George Rowe stepped in to blast it home. Queens keeper David Mathieson continued to thwart the home attack and in 32 minutes he brilliantly blocked a close range Shearer header. In 39 minutes Mathieson pushed a McLean pile-driver onto the bar. A minute into the second half Shearer dummied a Wilson cross and Sheerin stepped in to slam the ball home. From the restart they stormed upfield and should have had a penalty when Sheerin was brought down. Immediately after that McLean made it 2-1 with a stunning 25 yard drive off the underside of the bar. In 67 minutes the points seemed secure when McLean picked out Wilson with a pass and he scored number 3 with a low drive. With 5 minutes left Queens regained hope when they made it 3-2. Steve Mallan gathered a knock-on from substitute Charlie Adams and rifled it into the net. Despite this setback Caley Thistle held on to claim a well-deserved win.
