A young Celtic side came to Inverness to pay tribute to Charlie Christie's long service to Inverness football and to acknowledge his two year spell at Parkhead. They seemed to be cruising to a comfortable victory with three first half goals but Caley Thistle fought back to gain a 3-3 draw. Celtic took the lead in 15 minutes when Mark Burchill headed in a Barry Elliot cross. 8 minutes later it was 2-0 when James Smith whacked home an 18 yard low drive. In 35 minutes John Paul McBride made it three when he evaded four tackles in the box before stabbing it home. As the half drew to a close Charlie Christie nearly pulled one back when he jinked across the 6 yard box, passing 3 defenders, before Gallagher saved his angled drive. Three minutes into the second half Mike Teasdale strode through the Celtic defence, slipped it to Brian Thomson and his lob was headed in by Iain Stewart. Two minutes later Paul Cherry ran in on a Paul Sheerin pass and rammed in a right foot drive. In 61 minutes Stewart pounced on a bad pass back, rounded Gallagher and slipped it into the net. A great night for Charlie Christie, a good game for the fans and a fair result.
The eleventh Inverness player was Grassa Bennett who was replaced by the legendary Alan Hercher after 75 minutes. These two players are not shown on the stats as they were not signed players for this season.
