Milestones

Steve Paterson's first competitive match as Caledonian Thistle's manager proved to be a traumatic affair which ended in defeat but only after extra time and penalties.

Caley Thistle had the better of the first half but could not break down a good Berwick defence.

In 48 minutes Iain Stewart just kept the ball in play on the right and swept the ball across goal - Berwick's Tom Graham then surprisingly slid it past his own 'keeper under little pressure.

Caley Thistle continued to press but Berwick came back into the game and Neil Clegg equalised in 71 minutes with a 10 yard volley.

Berwick had chances to win the match but 1-1 was the score after 90 minutes. There were few chances in extra time but Richard Hastings headed off the Caley Thistle line 7 minutes from time and at the other end Doug Green had two half-chances.

Berwick won the penalty shoot. At 4-3 Dave McGinlay's shot was saved and Clegg scored to make it 5-3.

Penalty Scorers:
Berwick - Banks, Graham, Walton, Wilson & Clegg
Caley Thistle - Stewart, Noble, Ross
